Kamala Harris Positions

Economy & Taxes

Liberal Liberal-leaning Conservative

Supports raising taxes on high-income households and corporations while expanding tax credits for lower- and middle-income families and small-business relief. Proposals include raising the corporate rate to about 28%, increasing capital gains and surtaxes for millionaires, and enacting a billionaire minimum tax alongside expanded credits like an enlarged child tax credit and refundable LIFT proposals.

Healthcare

Liberal Liberal-leaning Conservative

Supports expanding Medicare and building on the Affordable Care Act to increase coverage and reduce costs while allowing private insurers to offer plans under strict Medicare rules. Has backed measures to lower prescription drug prices and proposed expanding Medicare to cover more in-home long-term care. Previously supported Medicare-for-All language but has clarified a position that preserves a role for private insurance rather than abolishing it entirely.

Immigration & Border

Liberal Liberal-leaning Conservative

Supports creating an earned pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants while also emphasizing stronger border security and enforcement measures, including expanding personnel and tools at the border and backing restrictions on asylum processing in certain circumstances. Describes the immigration system as broken and calls for comprehensive reform that balances humane treatment and enforcement.

Abortion & Reproductive Rights

Liberal Liberal-leaning Conservative

Supports restoring the protections of Roe v. Wade through federal law and opposes state abortion bans; endorses codifying reproductive rights and has called for congressional action to restore those protections. Has also supported procedural changes (e.g., removing the Senate filibuster) if needed to pass legislation protecting abortion access.

Climate & Energy

Liberal Very Liberal Conservative

Has supported ambitious climate action including co-sponsoring the Green New Deal and proposing aggressive emissions and clean-energy targets; advocated phasing out fossil fuel development on public lands and large federal clean-energy investments, though later aligned with the Biden administration climate approach while moderating some earlier positions.

Public Safety & Guns

Liberal Very Liberal Conservative

Supports reinstating an assault-weapons ban and bans on high-capacity magazines, requires universal background checks, and backs red-flag (extreme-risk) laws and other federal/state measures to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.
